Gender research databases and useful reference works
On this page you will find databases which specialize in gender research as well as general databases. In addition, you can find recommended reference works which are helpful for getting to know a specific topic.
The databases contain articles, books, reports, journals, etc. Each material or entry is also sometimes called a reference meaning it refers to a specific resource.
You can search the databases in the same way as in other library databases (e.g. soeg.kb.dk or bibliotek.dk). You can find a search guide on the library's website. The different databases often also have a help function on their own websites.
Contains approximately 150,000 references within Nordic and international gender research. The database is produced by the National Gender Library in Sweden. All the records include English as well as Swedish subject headings. The databases contain more than 150,000 references from 1970 and onwards.
The database is accessible to everyone.
Women's Studies International Database is a bibliographic database for women's studies and feminist research. Contains approximately 1 million references in international gender research. There's access to many of the most important gender research journals in full text, and all references are equipped with controlled keywords.
Access through the Royal Danish Library, Copenhagen University Library, Copenhagen University and Roskilde University. Other library users could have access depending on the license availability. Please ask at your local library.
The Royal Danish Library system: In the library system you can retrieve both physical and online resources available at Royal Danish Library, Copenhagen University Library, Aarhus University Library, as well as Roskilde University Library.
Anyone can become a registered user of the system and borrow books and journals, but not all online resources are freely accessible due to license restrictions. However, as a registered user of The Royal Library you have free access to nearly all resources through walk-in-use at any of the Royal Danish Library's locations.
Bibliotek.dk: Can be used by everyone and covers the catalogues of all Danish libraries, including public libraries, specialized libraries and academic libraries.
Through Bibliotek.dk you can order most materials for pickup at your local library. The only requirement is that you are a registered user either at a public library, or at a research library.
Google Scholar is a multidisciplinary database that contains research literature from around the world. It can be useful to search here because it allows you to quickly get an overview of the scope of a particular topic.
Google Scholar is accessible to everyone, but access to individual articles depends on whether you have access through an educational institution.
Reference works are collections of articles that describe topics or concepts. They are great to use if you need an introduction to a topic or need help finding the right words to use in your search.
Please note that most reference works are primarily accessible through The Danish Royal Library.
