Urban Knowledge Hubs; increasing digital literacy by designing innovative services and attractive hybrid spaces for people to learn, interact and exchange reliable information

The Urban Knowledge Hubs Conference took place in Copenhagen, June 11-12th 2025.

This two day conference included presentations of the co-creative results of the local projects in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Riga and Hamburg as well as talks, roundtables and keynote speakers. Additionally, the project partners shared ideas and experiences regarding innovative study spaces and services at universities and libraries. The main aim was to present our final output: A methodological toolbox for the participatory design of innovative spaces and services. This toolbox is not only relevant for the library sector but also for other educational institutions and authorities, since libraries and public institutions are adapting to a new information landscape in innovative ways.

Information is today primarily disseminated digitally. The information superhighway that is the internet has created both opportunities and challenges to various flows of information; as such, libraries and other public institutions are adapting to this landscape in new and innovative ways.  Libraries at all levels are seeking to engage the communities they serve in democratic co-creative projects to improve spaces and services. We hope, that our toolbox will be a valuable asset in this participatory process.
