Cite While You Write

Endnote uses the program Cite While You Write to transfer references to Word.
If you are missing the Endnote tab in Word, follow this guide.

ATTENTION Mendeley can block CWYW.

Insert references

Insert references via Insert Citation

In Word, click in the document where the reference is to be inserted.
Click on the "Insert Citation" icon 

Write author names or some significant words from the title. Click on "Find".

Mark the references you want to insert and click "Insert".

Insert references via Insert Selected Citations

In Word, click in the text where the references are to be inserted.
In Endnote, mark the references you want to transfer to Word:

  • Endnote x9: Click on the "Insert Citations" icon
  • Endnote 20: In the "Tools" menu, click "Cite While You Write [CWYW]", select "Insert selected citation(s)"

Bibliography/Literature list

Bibliography and reference style

Endnote continuously builds a bibliography at the end of the Word document as you insert references. Unless "Instant Formatting" is set to Off.

You can change the reference style under Style.

If the style you are looking for is not listed, select "Select Another Style".
