In Europe the term, Biology, deals with all aspects of animals, plants, algae, fungi, and microorganisms and their relations to their environment. In USA the term is almost synonymous with Physiology.
The library deals the biological subject areas in broad terms and covers many aspects like anatomy, Biogeny (including cell biology, reproduction, embryology, variation, genetics and evolution), physiology, biochemistry, biophysics, botany and zoology. Additional to these terms are also the fields common and topographic biology, economic biology, ecology, salt- and freshwater biology, microbiology, biodiversity etc.
The collection of printed biology literature goes back to 15th century. Today the collection is mainly enriched with electronical ressources (i.e., e-books, e-journals, and online databases) - mainly based on suggestions from our users. More information on E-books at The Royal Library
