New students - get started: Ordering, issuing, loan period

In general

Anybody who is above 18, who has a Danish civil registration number, and who resides in Denmark or southern Sweden may become a user at The Royal Library and the faculty libraries.

New user

Students, employees and other users can register themselves as users by using the REX catalogue and filling out an electronic registration form which is found under the headline New user. It is important that you state your email address on the registration form as all communication from the library is handled electronically.

First before you borrow an item you must inquire at the Information desk where we’ll activate your account. After this your Danish health insurance card acts as a library card.

Retrieve and order literature

All items can be retrieved in REX which also is where you order and renew your loans from home. Log on to REX with your Danish civil registration number and the password you have chosen yourself. When you order a book, you decide yourself where you want to pick-up your book.

Please see here where you can collect your books.

Self-service loan and return

You can issue items yourself through our self-service machines. Here you may also return, renew and see the status of your items. If you haven’t brought your health insurance card (or your student card), you simply key in your ID manually. You also have to use your 4-digit PIN with the self-service machine.

You can return the books at any of the Copenhagen University Library faculty libraries.
